Great Friends {by Lord of the Rings}

watching LOTR always amazes me.
(yes that does sound nerdy, but hey, I'm a nerd)

Unless you've seen the movies or read the books you can't fully understand the truth in this post, it is completely from context; I will share some quotes in which I just sit in awe going "Friendship, this is true friendship."

Fellowship:
Gandolf to Bilbo: "I'm not trying to hurt you, I'm trying to help you."

Sam: "I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise. 'Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee.' And I don't mean to. I don't mean to. "

Merry: "Buckleberry Ferry. Follow me."  (again, context)

Frodo: "Go back Sam. I'm going to Mordor alone."

Sam: "Of course you are. And I'm going with you."

Legolas: Hurry! Frodo and Sam have reached the eastern shore.  You mean not to follow them.

Aragorn: Frodo's fate is no longer in our hands.
Gimli: Then it has all been in vain. The fellowship has failed.
Aragorn: Not if we hold true to each other.  We will not abandon Merry and Pippin to torment and death. Not while we have strength left.

Frodo: Mordor... I hope the others find a safer road.

Sam: Strider'll look after them.
Frodo: I don't suppose we'll ever see them again.
Sam: We may yet, Mr. Frodo. We may.
Frodo: Sam... I'm glad you're with me.

Two Towers:
Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories... Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer....Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.

TreebeardI promised Gandalf I would keep you safe and safe is where I'll keep you.

Sam: Captain Faramir, you have shown your quality, sir - the very highest.

Faramir: The Shire must truly be a great realm, Master Gamgee, where gardeners are held in high honor.

Legolas: [in Elvish] Aragorn... they cannot win this fight. They are all going to die!

Aragorn: [in English] Then I shall die as one of them!

Return of the King:

Aragorn: We have time. Every day Frodo moves closer to Mordor.
Gandalf: Do we know that?
Aragorn: What does your heart tell you?

Sam: Frodo, wake up... Don't leave me here alone. Don't go where I can't follow... Wake up.

Faramir: Never fitted me either. Boromir was always the soldier. They were so alike, he and my father. Proud... stubborn, even. But strong.
Pippin: I think you have strength, of a different kind. And one day your father will see it.

Eowyn: Courage, Merry, courage for our friends.

Eowyn: I will kill you if you touch him!

Sam: Give me your hand. Take my hand. Don't you let go. Don't let go... *Reach!*

Gimli: Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with an Elf.
Legolas: What about side by side with a friend?
Gimli: Aye. I could do that.

Aragorn to Frodo, Sam, Pippin, and Merry: My friends. You bow to no one.

Merry: Are you going to leave me?
Pippin: No, Merry. I'm going to look after you

Gimli: Where do you think you're going?
Aragorn: Not this time, Gimli. This time you must stay.
Legolas: Have you learned nothing of the stubbornness of Dwarves?
Gimli: You may as well accept it. We're going with you, laddy.

Aragorn: For Frodo. (then he charges, followed by Merry and Pippin)

Aragorn:... A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day...

(and my personal favorite)
Sam: I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you!

Now mind you, I don't expect any of you to go out on a crazy adventure against evil in which you will discover your true friends; but let's be honest, if you have a group of friends willing to watch "Lord of the Rings" at a party or who are going to name their dogs after LOTR characters, you 're on the right track, and have some very choice friends.
